Finally! Early Morning Success!

Finally! Early Morning Success!

After two full weeks of not getting out of bed for an early morning workout, I finally made it and feel great. I was not so convinced at 5:00 am this morning and had a flash of me imitating Charlton Heston holding my blanket saying “from my cold, dead hands”. I did not want to get up but didn’t have a good excuse not to other than to be completely lazy and get 1 extra hour of sleep. The problem with that scenario is that with the added hour of sleep comes thousands of commuters that make me late for work and stressed out. I would have felt like a loser for sleeping instead of exercising so I finally threw the covers off and got to it.

I’ve seen several places lately that were billboards for me to bang my head against stating that people who are successful at keeping an exercise regiment are more likely to be morning exercisers. People who try to go later after work or errands can more easily make excuses to skip the workout and just run out of time. The easy thing to delete from the hectic schedule is that trip to the gym. I know this is true from experience but seeing it over and over again in fitness magazines and other news media just kept making me feel more guilty about sleeping in.

After my unintended Thanksgiving week off, I want to make sure to make exercise a priority in December through all the holiday baking and Christmas parties. It will make the parties much more enjoyable without any guilt about eating the treats.

So I’m feeling good and ready for my early morning workouts to be a regular thing again… I just wish it wasn’t so cold!!!

  1. Good for you! I have tried time and time again to get in the habit of an early morning workout– and once I get up and going I’m there, it’s just the laying in bed and battle in my head about getting up that gets in the way. I love working out in the morning, I always feel so much better throughout the day when I work out in the morning… Any tips on actually doing it?
