I LOVE the Olympics!!!

I LOVE the Olympics!!!

I have always loved the Olympics. My hubby just knows now that the 2 weeks they are on every two years, I’m out of commission. I don’t care if it is Summer or Winter… I LOVE it!

The athletes are so inspiring and impressive. I had exercised all of two times since the week before Christmas. It was the longest length of time without regular exercise for me in 5 years. That is very scary for me because it could be very easy to become a couch potato again. The ease of going to work, coming home and getting in pajamas before hitting the couch is very alluring to me and could sneak up to being a way of life all too easily again.

I don’t want to be that person again but it wasn’t enough to motivate me to get to moving. I don’t know if it was the stress of life keeping my focus away, or the season or all things combined. The Olympics have gotten me off the couch and on the treadmill at home. I can’t call it success yet because the couch next to the treadmill keeps me from focusing on a long hard workout. I know that I want to keep up an exercise routine that has regular 1 hour workouts 4 times a week. I have been able to walk/run for 30 minutes twice in the last 4 days.

Last night, I had a lot to do with getting ready for a potluck today. I went by the store and kept telling myself (almost out loud) “getting home late is no excuse not to exercise. Whatever happens, go in, change clothes and get on that treadmill.” And that’s exactly what I did. I unloaded the groceries, put them in the cabinets and fridge and changed clothes. I was running 2 minutes on and off until about 18 minutes. I looked at the clock and at the couch… man, I wanted to get off. But I was watching the cross-country ski men’s 15K and kept thinking how hard those guys were working and not giving up. I managed to get an extra run in and lasted the full 30 minutes.

I am proud that I’m not giving up or giving in. I’m not pinning a medal on myself for the actual exercise because it hasn’t compared to where I was at 3 months ago but I definitely deserve a gold for the effort to get off the couch!

I don’t know what the solution is for the long term exercise. I plan on joining a gym in Conway in a month. There are 3 5k’s in Conway and Little Rock that I plan to train for to keep a goal in mind for motivation. Success will depend on finding lifelong habits, goals, motivation, and all the rest because staying active is my only guarantee for healthy life and weight.
